Called the "Soutien Collar," here in Japan, the name of the "Bal Collar Coat" comes from a place name in Inverness, Scotland. The key feature of this coat is a wraparound silhouette that covers your body. It also offers the functional properties of rainwear thanks to its sloping A-line (an A-shape that spreads toward the hem) that channels away raindrops. Current commercially available products simply don’t offer this kind of spacious form, but rather a more fashion-conscious tight fit. Our image of the ideal bal collar coat comes form the style of the 1950s and 60s. It's simple and modest, and yet has an air of elegance. Please also note the manly barrel-chested cut.
