*Only available form batak House Cut
The original meaning of the word "covert" in our "Covert Coat," was "a place for prey to hide." Indeed, it actually started out life as a hunting coat. The iconic quadruple-stitched cuffs and hem seem to have been devised to prevent fraying when hunting in the bush. It was also adopted as part of a military uniform around the 18th or 19th century, and the four rows of stitches and four buttons are also said to be in accordance with the military regulations of the time. We don't keep ready-made sizes in stock, but rather offer them as "House Cut" coats that are tailored to fit the customer. Covert cloth inventory information is available on our news blog.

The "Chesterfield Coat" was born in the UK in the mid-1800s. It is said to have been derived form the frock coat. In the era when it was worn by nobility, warm and light cashmere wool was the fabric of choice. But in modern times, other fabric choices such as velour, Cheviot and other luxury cloths such as Ram's Golden Bale (a cashmere blend) became available. batak's original cut is based on the cut of choice for the British Royalty during WWI (hidden buttons draw focus to the waist line), and reproduces that style faithfully. Despite being a full dress coat, it's also used worldwide as business attire. Please consult our blog for fabric availability.
